How To Make Your Kids' Bathroom 'Guest Ready'? Feat. West Slope Modern

Are you considering a bathroom revamp? Whether you're adding a few new styling pieces or going for a full remodel, creating a space that’s both practical for kids and impressive for guests is entirely possible.

Read on for our 2 tips that strike the perfect balance between function and style:

  1. AESTHETIC CHOICES When designing a kids' bathroom, the choices you make—like tile, countertops, and hardware—can dramatically influence the room’s style.

  2. SMART STORAGE Proper storage is essential for keeping a shared bathroom tidy and organized, especially when it doubles as a guest bathroom.

As always, we've included shoppable items so you can recreate the look of this beautiful bathroom. You can also visit our shop page for more recommendations.

The relationship between the tambour wood panels and white Ann Sacks tile creates harmony in this multifunctional bathroom.

At West Slope Modern, we transformed an existing hall bathroom into a dual-purpose space that serves as both the kids' and guests' bathroom. Our goal was to create a bathroom that is practical, stylish, and timeless.

Aesthetic Choices That WOW!

In this bathroom, we opted to accent the wall with a wood Tambour product. This feature adds texture and visual interest, acting like art in the space. What’s even better? It’s bulletproof and easy to clean, making it perfect for a kids’ bathroom while still leaving a lasting impression on guests. If Tambour isn’t your style, consider framed art as another way to finish the space. It’s an easy swap that still adds a touch of sophistication. For more, see our favorite bathroom accessories.

The standout feature for us is the Fireclay 'Star & Cross' tile. To let it shine, we kept the rest of the space clean and minimalist with Ann Sacks rectangular wall tile, complemented by a playful brushed bronze wall-mounted sink faucet.

Smart Storage Solutions

Keep whimsical or youthful elements to items that can easily be swapped out, like cups, towels, or bath mats (one of our favorite bath mats here, that would work for kids and guests). When guests arrive, you can quickly update linens to match the bathroom’s more permanent features.

To maintain an elevated look, select hooks and accessories that complement the room's design. And here’s a little tip: store a stylish candle under the cabinet. When company comes over, light it up to create a welcoming ambiance.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the power of a well-placed shower niche, (see Dosch Road for a double-decker)! I always ensure the niche is on a wall that's out of direct sight when you enter the bathroom. In this case, we placed it on the opposite wall from the plumbing. This keeps the focus on a clean, uninterrupted tile wall instead of a shelf filled with toiletries.

BONUS: Mood Lighting & Mirrors

Make sure fixtures are dimmable for parties and shed plenty of light for teenage makeup application, (trust me on this one).

At West Slope Modern, we carefully considered every detail when it came to the glass, mirrors, and lighting. Oversized globe sconces were a key choice, providing excellent light while giving the space a modern, timeless look. These sconces are free of metal accents, eliminating the need to coordinate finishes and ensuring they won't date the space—a feature I love.

However, oversized globes can reduce the amount of space available for installing mirrors. To make the most of the space, we worked closely with our team, (did you know shower glass guys are the SAME guys that make custom mirrors?). They understand my style and attention to detail, which made designing the perfect mirror for West Slope Modern a breeze.
