Is Terrazzo Trendy? Are Green Carpets Back? And How to Refresh Your Living Room This Spring
Design trends can feel confusing.
Is terrazzo classic or trendy?
Is green carpet a mistake?
Should you refresh for spring — or leave it alone?
Let’s break it down.
Is Terrazzo Trendy or Timeless?
Terrazzo has existed for centuries. Traditional marble-chip terrazzo is rooted in Venetian design and known for durability.
The difference today? Scale and color.
At Firehouse, we used large-scale terrazzo flooring in neutral tones. Then we pulled subtle colors from the chips into paint and artwork for cohesion.

If you’re nervous about longevity:
Use neutral terrazzo in permanent applications (floors, counters).
Use bold terrazzo in decor (planters, tables).
Timeless isn’t about the material.
It’s about restraint.
Planters: The Easiest Spring Refresh
If your home feels stale after winter, don’t overhaul it.
Swap planters.
Layer:
Terracotta
Stoneware
Woven baskets
Vary heights near your entry or group three on a dining table.
Small move. Big energy shift.
If you’re tight on space? Hanging planters or window boxes add life without clutter.
This hanging planter at Wendy’s house (Treehouse) is starting to grow across the entire vanity side of the powder bath! 🙀
Is Green Carpet Back?
Short answer? Yes — but not the 1970s version.
Deep, moody greens are re-emerging in:
Wool rugs
Monochromatic spaces
Velvet upholstery
At our Indian Ford Mod project, we leaned into dark green carpet intentionally — pairing it with warm wood tones and strategic lighting so it reads luxe, not retro.
The key is contrast and light control.
If you’re unsure? Start small with textiles before committing wall-to-wall.
